CPD- Dow, climbing- White Ghyll

Day 2 of our CPD and we were short roping up and down Dow Crag's descent route and parts of Giant's Crawl- putting it all together and getting it to flow. Hope the chap I helped who had dislocated his shoulder climbing is feeling better :-(
Then I got dropped of in Langdale to meet Dan for some late evening cragging. I nipped up Middlefell Buttress waiting for him to finish work and we headed for White Ghyll. Here we climbed a couple of E1s an HVS and a VS - 5 very quick (so quick Dan the local didn't even give me their names) pitches of quality climbing before heading for some liquid refreshment! More Lakeland rock tomorrow...

  1. A friend of mine dislocated his shoulder on Dow many years ago. We were climbing one of the Eliminates. Luckily, he was seconding when it happened. He had dislocated it more than once before and it just popped out.

Fortunately, I managed to pop it back in (don't try this at home) and we abseiled back down. In all the excitement I had left the guidebook on a ledge, so had to go back the next day and repeat the route to collect it!

  2. Regarding Middlefell Buttress... I have done it twice now, and each time I do it find that chimney start difficult! I do have a rucksack full of bivvy gear while doing it though... what are your thoughts?

  3. Hi Ian, yes this lad had cracked his humerus too- he was very stoic. At least it was only a pitch up.
Hi Subflux, hate that chimney, very polished and awkwardly traditional- best avoided on the left in the damp. Done the RH start (Severe) in big boots and its nicer!
