AMI Workshop

Over the weekend I have been working on an Association of Mountaineering Instructors Trainee MIC workshop. These are designed to support Trainees approaching Assessment and to let them gain further skills, put them into practise and to answer any questions that may have arisen as they prepare.
George Mcewan the AMI Technical Officer headed up the workshop and welloked at a wide range of subjects including short roping upwards and downwards, the transition stage of moving clients from the snow apron to the first belay, parallel ropework stance management, teaching progressions in winter climbing and movement coaching. A very busy weekend with 9 super keen Trainees.
We worked away from the routes this weekend making use of small, broken crags and short snowslopes and avoiding the parking chaos of the Cas Car Cark!
A bit milder today(sunday) and yesterday. If the frezzing level drops again we'll have hard snow but there is a good prospect of more fresh stuff landing on this. Keep and eye on the SAIS forecast!
Next week I'm working an Introduction to Winter climbing Course based again at Glenmore Lodge.
