Ed Grindley
It is with real sadness that I heard on UKC that Ed Grindley passed away at the weekend. to the climbing world he was a climber, Guide, Teacher and enthusiastic member of both the Climbers Club and the Polldubh club. Prolific in his new routeing he is well known in particular for first ascents at Diabaig and in Glen Nevis but also for routes in Glencoe, on Pavey in The Lakes, Haytor, The Alps and on Ben Nevis. He remained a keen climber to the end and was supportive of other climbers whether pupils, clients, partners or just folk he met on the hill. In the last year he was still new routing at Polldubh and as a founder member of the Polldubh club had been instrumental in the work to reclaim overgrown areas of crags there for climbers.

He was my great uncle, I did not know him that well though, because he loved spending his time climbing. Seeing posts like this make me happy to see that he meant something to people. :)
I have only just found this and I'm very saddened to hear that Ed (Mr Grindley) is not with us anymore.
He taught me O level Physics at Fleetwood Grammar School in the early 70s and also took me to Rawhead in Langdale on a few occasions.
Totally responsible for getting me in to climbing and will remain one of my personal heroes.
A great, gentle guy with a good old rebellious streak.
