What a cracking day! Rog, Cath and I went to Ledge Route today. After a winter skills course last year they wanted to try something a little steeper. We had stunning weather all day and hardly a breath of wind. The surface of the soft snowpack of yesterday ahd frozen but I was still punching through the crust when breaking trail. Fortunately there was little of that to do as we had a great set of tracks the whole way up Ledge Route. The team's footwork was good and that and the friendly firm snow and deep footprints meant that we didn't need the rope at all. After a brief lunch stop on Carn Dearg taking it all in we headed across to descend No.4 Gully. We had great views today of climbers on Greem Gully, a number of parties on Tower Ridge, a grandstand seat to the team finishing up No.3 Gully Buttress and also watched one of the teams that did North Gully today.
Thanks to Cath and Rog for the great company on a stunning mountaineering day.
